Recently, I represented Hamilton Families at a virtual fireside chat with Rabbi Ryan Bauer and Congregation Emanu-El’s Tzedek Council. The discussion was an opportune one, what with May being both Affordable Housing Month and Mental Health Awareness Month; we were able to dive deep into the underlying reasons behind the Bay Area’s lack of affordable housing and the racial inequity that’s entrenched in U.S. housing policies. Not many people know that homelessness creates long lasting trauma that families must overcome as they seek to stabilize and thrive, especially for the 3-in-4 families we serve who are led by single Black and Brown mothers.

That’s why, for Mother’s Day, I invite you to reach out to your friends and family to join us in helping moms and their families to break the cycle of homelessness. From small things like joining and sharing our Mother’s Day fundraiser on your social media or buying a t-shirt from the newest collection on our merch store, to big things like advocating for affordable housing for all and repealing racist housing policies, we all have a role in ending family homelessness.

In community,

May is Mental Health Awareness Month and we’re excited to showcase our newest collection on our merch store! Inspired by Amanda Gorman’s poem, Hamilton Families staff member Yesenia Magdaleno-Solis designed this incredible collection to celebrate hard-working mothers and to bring acknowledgment to mental health challenges and successes that mothers experience. Don’t wait…. this merch will move fast!
